Seattle Coffee Company

Seattle’s story is an interesting one. I managed to spend some time chatting to Pete, one of the owners, about how Seattle landed up on the map.

Way back in ’93 when MC Hammer and hula hoops were still cool, a couple from Seattle who were living in London, started out a coffee chain, named, er, Seattle. Over the next five years their empire grew to over 65 stores before they were approached by a starry-eyed buck that bought the franchise in ’98. A year before the big change, Pete had been working for Seattle as a barista.

I fell in love with being a barista and the service that went with it. There was always such a vibe behind the coffee bar. It was our stage.

Having loved the brand and what it represented, Pete managed to secure the rights to bring Seattle back home to SA. Their first store was opened in Cavendish in ’97. Since then they have expanded to 32 stores throughout the country.

Seattle serve Union coffee, which is roasted by hand in London. Their stores are vibrantly decorated and the staff are friendly and accommodating. Coffee lingo displays ensure that you can have your coffee just the way you like it. Whether it’s with wings or wild, its worth a try.
