If you haven’t been to or know of Vida e caffé then I’m assuming you are the type that still uses an external modem and also didn’t notice that Ghost Pops went off the market for a good decade, if not longer. Their red parasols and seating are as distinct as a stop sign and their meia de leite as familiar as the back of your hand. But you know all this already.
What you might not know is that Vida have set up their very own roastery in Cape Town and it’s just as bold and vibrant as their stores and the people that fill them. Having previously imported their beans from Portugal, the roastery now cuts out the time it took to get them here. The beans are exactly the same, just fresher. The planning and preparation for the roastery was a two-year long process. A consultant was brought in to cover every angle from the choice of machines to training the staff. All I know about this guy is that his name is Pedro, which I think is pretty apt. I imagine him to don a Tom Selleck moustache and recite lines from the Godfather, a distant cousin of Joao Estrela perhaps? Regardless of who he is, he did a good job.
