The Toffie Food Festival and Conference is just around the corner and if you haven’t got your ticket yet we’ve got some good news.
Toffie Food is a 2-day food festival and conference jam-packed with tastings, food exhibitions, workshops, a cookbook shop, a food market and talks from local and international food experts.
International guest speakers include Julie Powell, the famous food blogger whose life was the subject of the film Julie & Julia; world-renowned food flavourist Marie Wright from the States and food stylist, cookbook author and publisher Eloise Alemany from Argentina.
South African guest speakers include Gourmand World Cookbook Award winner Renata Coetzee; the man behind the blog, Sardines on Toast, and chef at Oep ve Koop in Paternoster, Kobus van der Merwe and food critic and author, Anna Trapido.
There is also a spice room dedicated to spices from around the globe and a tasting room filled with food inspired by speaker Anna Trapido’s book Hunger for Freedom – the Story of Food in the Life of Nelson Mandela.
But what we’re most excited about is international coffee extraordinaire, Tung-Yuan Lin, cofounder of GaBee, in Taiwan and multi-award winner of the Taiwan Barista Championship. He represented Taiwan at the World Barista Champs in 2007 and since then has been heavily involved in the coffee industry instructing in professional coffee-making, judging barista competitions, and demonstrating his skills all over Asia. Tung-Yuan Lin is renowned for the delicacy and finesse of his coffee, and his pioneering work in promoting excellent coffee-making all over Asia. This man knows coffee.
