Cape Town’s east city has been receiving a lot of love lately. And this is a wonderful thing, because it means that one of her finest institutions, I Love My Laundry, has opened shop on Buitenkant Street.
The space is small but cosy. Upon entering the café, you are instantly hit by that warm smell of a tumble dryer mingled with freshly brewed coffee. What could be more welcoming and homely than that? Guests are invited by the very warm staff to take a seat at the singular long table within the room, and to help themselves to the delicious pastries on display. Everything about this spot seems to scream community, warmth and friendliness.
The coffee was strong and decent. Cape Townians are spoiled by the many artisan roasters in the city, but the coffee on offer was a fine option for a cuppa joe to be enjoyed whilst the socks and knickers dry.
In my opinion, the main attraction of this spot is the small but gorgeous dim sum menu. Even better are the laundry parties that are hosted at the cafe each Wednesday night. On these nights, the wine tasting is free. I don’t think a finer mid-laundry slot pastime exists.
I Love My Laundry offers a unique concept that is both fun and welcoming. Whether it’s their services you are after, or whether you just simply want to grab a coffee in the up and coming east side, this is a safe go to for great service and a better atmosphere.
