If the Mypressi Twist is not on your Christmas list, you need to make some changes, fast. This little number is a handheld espresso maker and you can take it anywhere. Yes, anywhere! No external power needed, just coffee and hot water. The Twist uses small gas cartridges, the same you’d find in a whipped cream dispenser, to produce 9 bars of pressure. The cartridges look like a smaller version of the old school soda stream guys and are readily available for about four bucks each. You can pull a single or a double shot and it also has a basket for a pod. Each cartridge produces eight single or four double shots. Here’s how it works.
Fill the basket with ground coffee.
Level off and tamp down firmly.
Place the basket in the holder, pop the empty water bowl on top and lock it into place.
Fill the water bowl with hot water. Put on the cap.
Pull the trigger and voila! It’s that simple.
We have Red Espresso to thank for bringing us the Twist. You can purchase one from them directly, online or from one of their stockists (Truth, Deluxe, Bean There, Gourmet Coffee Roasters). The Twist is going for about R1500 and comes with all the gadgets you’ll need for a perfectly smooth espresso.
