You can’t help but feel like you have tumbled down the rabbit hole the first time you step into Starlings. It takes a while to get your bearings in this converted little house as the mirrored and mismatched painted walls make the space appear double its size. The furniture is an eclectic mix of classic and modern with whitewashed wooden flooring below. Interesting artworks stretch throughout and the tables are dressed in what you could consider to be Gran’s best selection of table clothes. The back stoep is enclosed by glass concertina panels that open onto to a quaint outdoor area that is carpeted in wood chips and abounding in creepers.
Starlings is open for breakfast and lunch and they are serving Origin’s delicious house blend. Pop past on Wednesdays between 4pm and 6pm for their weekly market comprised of a handful of Starlings’ suppliers. You’ll find honey from urban beekeepers, Gardener’s Glory, charcuterie, farm-fresh eggs and butter and biodynamically farmed fruit and veg amongst other goodies.
Look out for the Origin umbrellas from Belvedere Road or you might miss this lovely little place all together.
