Fiiiiiiiinally, someone has decided to offer a selection of the city’s best roasts under one roof! We’ve been waiting patiently for this concept to pop up for some time now and we’ve seen similar concepts– Superette offered both Deluxe and Rosetta blends – but nothing quite as broad and with the same impetus behind it.
The Blend opened about a month ago on Roeland Street and it’s got a 1920’s speakeasy feel to it – black walls, menu painted in white, sunken elevation, black chandeliers, but with loads of light.
On the food side of things, for breakfast it’s all the regular players – try the omelette special: 5 fillings, 1 meat/fish i.e. bacon/salmon, with coffee and a little smoothie juice for only 45 bucks. Ridiculous, I know. For lunch try one of their killer sandwiches –think bacon, Brie and fig or pesto chicken. (Full menu is photographed below).
On the coffee front, Julie Dispraz, who came up with concept says that, “We’re in an area where we’ve got a lot of offices with people who don’t have a lot of time. Eateries only stock one brand of coffee – if you want a cup of Truth coffee you go to Truth. But when you have little time and are in a rush you can’t always get to a specific place to have that specific coffee.” And we have to agree.
At the moment The Blend are stocking Tribe, Deluxe and Kupa and are in the process of signing up a bunch of other roasteries. They’ve only been open a month so let’s give them a bit of leeway while they get the others on board. Thumbs up, guys!
